List of Recognised Irish Institutions, Organisations and Awarding Bodies Introduction The Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications between the Government of Ireland and the Government of The People’s Republic of China, which was signed by the two respective Ministers for Education on 23 February 2006, aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications awarded to students in Ireland and in China by their higher education awarding bodies. The agreement comes into effect on 23 May 2006. Under the agreement, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (MoE) and the Department for Education and Science (DES) of Ireland are each to designate an appropriate body to provide information on recognition and to make concrete recommendations in accordance with their current regulations and practices. The Department of Education and Science has designated the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland. Under the agreement, both designated bodies are to advise higher education institutions in their countries on the provision of higher education and the comparability of qualifications from both systems with the aim of facilitating academic mobility and co-operation. Both designated bodies are also to inform each other through diplomatic channels of the latest list of recognised institutions, organisations and awarding bodies, and provide information on different award titles which are recognised on both sides. Information for Chinese Designated Body The agreement covers the recognition of certain major award-types in the Irish National Framework of Qualifications as follows – the Higher Certificate, the Ordinary Bachelor Degree, the Honours Bachelor Degree, the Masters Degree and the Doctoral Degree. It also refers to the Higher Diploma and the Post-Graduate Diploma. Recognised Awarding Bodies In Ireland, there are a number of different bodies which have the authority to make these awards. These bodies
