Normal Balloon Pressure Waveform a. Zero Baseline The baseline pressure is created by the pressure exerted on the transducer when the pneumatic system is filled with helium. b. IAB Inflation This indicates the pressure rise created as the IAB inflates. c. Peak Inflation At the peak of inflation, the inflation overshoot is caused by gas pressure in the pneumatics from inflation pressure d. Plateau After the peak inflation overshoot, the gas pressure equilibrates and settles to a plateau. The plateau pressure indicates the pressure in the balloon catheter during inflation. The duration of the plateau is determined by the duration of inflation timing. e. IAB Deflation As the balloon rapidly deflates, the pressure wave drops abruptly as vacuum removes helium from the IAB catheter. f. Peak Deflation Vacuum in the system upon balloon deflation will cause the pressure wave to overshoot the baseline, creating the negative overshoot. g. Return to Baseline When all the gas is returned to the pump system, pressure will return to baseline prior to the next inflation cycle. * * 2.
