Media Manager: Architecture Media Manager Run-Time Structure Media Manager: Network Structure Device Catalog Two-part catalog: ltidevs—Tape and optical devices robotic_def—Robotic devices One device catalog per media server contains: Device type Operating system access information Hardware status Local Device Catalog on each media server ltid starts vmd and reads the catalog upon startup to determine the devices it controls: If devices have been configured, then avrd and the appropriate device controllers are started. If no devices have been configured, ltid shuts down without starting avrd or the device controllers. The catalog is empty upon installation To configure the first device using the Media and Device Management interface, vmd must be running.
