Non-magnetic cylindrical cloak with optimized homogeneous isotropic layers Zhenzhong Yu, Yijun Feng, Xiaofei Xu, Junming Zhao Department of Electronic Science and Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210093, China. Through optimization of genetic algorithm, a six-layer concentric optimized homogeneous isotropic material has low scattering compared to the forty-layer calculated by effective medium theory. Moreover, we construct the cloak by five layers with two kinds of alternating materials to achieve invisibility. The reduction for the species of material can significantly facilitate the manufacturing of the cloaking shells. Electromagnetic invisibility cloak proposed by J. Pendry has been widely concerned. The cloaks designed through transformations optics usually require anisotropic and inhomogeneous media [1]. Such idea has been demonstrated experimentally at microwave frequencies using inhomogeneous structured metamaterial with different unit cells of split ring resonators, which is difficult to realized in the practical fabrication and not easy to extend to optical range [2]. To solve this problem, we have proposed cloak using concentric layered structure of alternating homogeneous isotropic materials [3]. Based on the effective medium theory, such structure could have better cloaking performance as increasing the number of layers. Recently optimized cloaks with only limited number of layers have been proposed [4, 5], however these proposals still need layers of anisotropic metamaterial which is difficult to achieve for an optical cloak. In this paper, we will demonstrate that our proposed cloak with concentric layered structure of optimized homogeneous isotropic materials can significantly reduce the number of cloaking shells. Through optimized design of the permittivi
