The study of male/ female styles of speech has mainly focused on such aspects as topics. amount .of talk. simultaneous speech. minimal responses. silence and so on. Researchers have not yet agreed on why there lire differences in male and female speech. Some researchers have proposed the Dominance approach. while others have favored the Difference approach. Neither of the two approaches can give a full explanation of the differences in male/female speech. From the point of socio-cultural perspective. the author of this paper holds the view that the combination of the two theories can bet? ter reinterpret the differences of male and female speech styles. The study of male/female speech is of great theoreti? cal and practical significance.
