Methods for the reference substance diosgenin, using spectrophotometry, perchlorate color, absorbance at 410 nm was measured to calculate the total saponin content of bittersweet. Results diosgenin concentration range of 8.91 ~ 29.70μ g/ml within the range of absorbance values showed good linear relationship (r = 0.999 2), means the average recovery was 95.9% (n = 9), RSD 1.5% ; different sources of bittersweet herbs in the total saponin content are quite different. Conclusion The method is simple, accurate, sensitive, reproducible and can be used bittersweet quality control of medicines.
