A Metallographic Study on Iron and Steel Arrowheads from Kaman-Kalehöyük Stratum II Mariya MASUBUCHI London ABSTRACT This paper demonstrates preliminary results of a new technical study of iron and steel artefacts selected from established, dated contexts from Kaman-Kalehöyük Stratum II. Seven arrowheads were analysed by metallographic observation and Vickers micro-hardness testing. Through a deliberate planning of sample selection and sample preparation, this study revealed features and changes in production techniques of iron and steel arrowheads. Even with only a small number of samples, a technological change in between IIc and the later periods was confirmed. On checking the recent updates of archaeological investigation, consequently, this study suggested new viewpoints on technological aspects and cultural contexts of Kaman-Kalehöyük Stratum II. 1.
