SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION These guidelines are for the identification and quantification of metal coatings of articles described in Chapter 72 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). 1. INTRODUCTION Due to the variety of coating materials being used in the industry and the different techniques that can be employed for their determination, writing a detailed procedure is not feasible. These guidelines describe the general approach in the identification and quantification of metal coatings on different metal substrates. These guidelines and appendices list consensus methods and references that will be helpful in performing the variety of tests that may used. 2.
