VIKRE ASARCO Inc., 510 East Plumb Lane, Reno, Nevada 89502 Abstract Gold ore atthe adjacentSandstormandKendallminesoccursin silicifiedfissuresor ledges that formedby bothopen-spacedepositionandreplacementof Miocenerhyolites2 mi (3.2 km) northof Goldfield,EsmeraldaCounty,Nevada.The ledges,whichare approximately21 Ma, alterationselvages,andvolcanicstratigraphyat Sandstorm-Kendallare similarto those of the maindistrict,immediatelynortheastof the town of Goldfield,where morethan 95 percentofpastgoldproductionoccurred.From1903to 19474.2 M oz (136,360kg)of gold wasproducedfrom the Goldfielddistrict. EnechelonSandstorm-Kendallledgesegmentsconsistofsixassemblageswhichfromoldest toyoungestare:(1) ledgereplacementquartz,(2)barite+ sulfides,(3) quartz+ pyrite+ barite, (4) quartz+ barite+ kaolinitebreccia,(5) vuggyquartz,and(6) lateralreplacementquartz. A largerangein homogenizationtemperatures(292ø-100øC),salinities(0.2-7,9 wt % NaCI), isotopiccompositions(bD,+3 to -137%0;•1SO,+4.2 to -17.6%0)andgasconcentrations (3.8-27.5 wt % CO2+ H2S+ SO2+ N2)isobservedin quartzandbariteofthe sixassemblages. Isotopictemperaturescalculatedfor (•34Spyrite_alunite and(•34Spyrite_gypsumin wall-rockmineral assemblagesrangefrom 200øto 356øC. Gold occursasinclusionsin coppersulfosalts(mainlyluzoniteandfamatinite)andbarite of assemblage(2), andin quartzandbariteof assemblage(4).
