*Respect *Diversity *Sportsmanship *Integrity *Teamwork *Perseverance *Healthy Lifestyles Fall 2009 www.SoccerKidsofAmerica.Org ? 2009 Mission Soccer Kids of America is a character development program for children that attend high at-risk elementary schools.? Our focus is to teach children life skills through after school on the field instruction of basic soccer skills at elementary schools across our nation. These Life Skills are based on lesson planning that aims to enhance children’s knowledge of: *Respect *Diversity *Sportsmanship *Integrity *Teamwork *Perseverance *Healthy Lifestyles (Balancing Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Body Image) Enhancing Acquisition of Developmental Assets and Outcomes in accordance with recommendations from the Search Institute (e.g. Children Ages 8 to 12), Positive Youth Development (PYD) literature, and USDA Team Nutrition. Soccer Kids of America delivers their program at high at-risk elementary schools around the US, after school, one hour per week for seven weeks, two seasons per year.? Each week the children learn a new soccer skill such as dribbling, passing, shooting, throw-ins, corner kicks, and goal kicks and they are taught one life skill.? Upon graduation of the program participants receive their own soccer ball, and graduation certificate.? This is a free program to the at-risk schools that we serve. The Soccer Kids of America program is structured to draw parallels between using these life skills on the field and off the field, at home and at school, giving the children tools to be successful in life.
