Therefore,thepresentstudyaimedtocomparesurveythoracicradiographsandcomputerizedtomography(CT) scanstospecificallyidentifylungmetastasesinfemaledogswithmammarytumors. Methods:Twenty-onefemaledogs,weighing3to34kgandagedfrom5yearsto14yearsand10months,with mammarytumorswerestudied.Inalldogsbeforetheimagingexaminations,fine-needleaspirationcytologyofthe mammarytumorswasperformedtoconfirmthediagnosis.Three-viewthoracicradiographswereaccomplished: rightlateral,leftlateralandventrodorsalviews.Sequentialtransverseimagesofthethoraxwereacquiredona spiralScanner,beforeandafterintravenousbolusinjectionofnonioniciodinecontrast.Soft-tissueandlung windowswereapplied.Allthemammarytumorsweresurgicallyremovedandexaminedhistologically. Results:Thecorrelationbetweenthecytologicalandhistologicalresultsregardingpresenceofmalignancywas observedinonly17cases.Inradiographicexaminations,nodogdisplayedsignsoflungmetastasesorthoraxchest lesions.CTdetectedlungmetastasisintwocases,whilesmallareasoflungatelectasislocatedperipherallywere foundin28.57%ofthedogs. Conclusion:Inthisstudypopulation,spiralCTshowedhighersensitivitythanchestradiographiestodetectlung metastasis;thisindicatesthatCTshouldbeperformedonallfemaledogswithmalignantmammarytumors.
