The Ethernet to digital I/O (E-Net I/Otm) module is an interrupt driven, digital I/O module that is controlled by the MoldWatcher by way of an Ethernet connection. It has 4 inputs and 6 outputs, 24 vdc relays. Avalon’s exclusive SPI/Euromap12 and Euromap67 Quick Connect modules interface with the MoldWatcher unit through an Ethernet connection. It will plug directly into the press’s SPI robot interface or Euromap 12/67 connector. * The smallest feature the MoldWatcher can detect is called system resolution. The resolution of any machine vision system is inversely proportional to the field-of-view (FOV) size, because that is what determines the density of the pixel elements, which act as sensors within the image area. The steep angle of the camera on horizontal presses means that the FOV at the top of the image will be smaller than at the bottom. Resolution is also affected by vibration and the contrast between the object being viewed (part or tooling component) and the background (mold surface). Therefore, as a conservative rule, we estimate the resolution on MoldWatcher applications with the standard camera mode (640 X 480) ≈ 1% of the FOV size. For example, if the FOV is 300mm x 250mm, the smallest feature (flash, short shot, slide position, etc.) that could reliably be detected is approximately 3mm. The high resolution camera mode can more than quadruple the system’s resolution. Because the FOV size has such an important effect on system resolution, it is very important to optimize the field of view by using the proper lens with the proper camera placement, so that resolution is not diluted by the area outside of the desired viewing area. * The near infrared (NIR) mode camera and the DarkLight NIR light greatly enhance the mold monitoring application by eliminating most false failures that would otherwise occur from ambient (visible) light interference, from causes such as skylights, windows, loading doors and overhead cranes.
