* In a multipoint videoconference it is quite possible to have all participants appear on each one’s display in a split-screen fashion. Be it a PC monitor or a large TV display the screen is split into four quadrants and each participant appears in a designated quadrant. The above scenario enables five remote participants to be displayed on the screen. As each one does not require to see himself/herself in a remote video window only the other four remote participants are seen. The local video window is used for displaying the local site at each end. If more than five remote participants are in a multipoint videoconference it is possible to designate one of the quadrants to become a floating quadrant and the other three fixed for specific participants. Anyone that is not one of the above three and is now talking will automatically appear within the floating quadrant and will replace the previous one. * Voice Activated is an alternative method for multipoint videoconferencing to a Continuous Presence that was described earlier. In this method the loudest speaking participant will get to be displayed on everyone’s screens and all the rest will be hidden from sight. In orderly fashion participants of a multipoint videoconference speak one after the other and each time only the speaker is viewed. Another method seldom used is called ‘Chair Control’ where one of the participants is chosen to be the videoconference chair controller and he/she can decide at any given point in time which participant will be viewed by everyone, regardless if this participant generates audio stream or not.
