The empirical relationships between the amount of alkali extracted on weat her- ing glass surface and the environmental condition such as temperature, humidity and t ime for the silicate glasses w ere derived. The amount of alkali extracted increases with increasing weathering temperature, humidity and time for the glass samples. The morpholo- gies and contents of w eathered products were identified by SEM, WDS, EPMA and XPS. The results indicate that the reaction prod- ucts on the w eathered surface of soda- lime silicate glasses are mainly sodium and calcium mixed carbonate. The weatherability of glass depends not only on composition but also on the morphology of phase separat ion if this glass has phase_separation. The droplets of silica_rich phase are more liable to weathering, and the weathering increases wit h the volume of the discrete droplets of silica_rich phase. But the weathering degree of the glass w ith the connected structure of the silica_rich phase w ill reduce under t he same condi- tion. The mechanism of the weatherability of glass and
