College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin 150040, China) Abstract: A syst em design for automatically measuring plant leaf parameters based on MAT LAB w as presented. In the system, a scanner was used to obtain a plant leaf image in w hich there w as a reference object. Edges of the leaf and the reference object were obtained by binarization and edge tracking in the image. The paramet ers ( including area, perimeter, length and width) w ere detected by virtue of the real diameter and area of the reference object. Experimental results from real leaves demonstrat e that the proposed system can automatically measure plant leaf parameters with high speed and accuracy , and it is efficient and practical.
