Chapter 1 Introduction In this chapter, we shall give a brief introduction for some base deﬁnitions and known results. 1.1 Deﬁnitions Deﬁnition 1.1 Let and be positive integers. A packing (resp. covering) P is an ordered pair where is a -set of points, and is a collection of sub- sets of with sizes from , called blocks, such that each pair of points of occurs at most (resp. at least) times in the blocks. For any pair of distinct points, let be the number of blocks containing . The leave (resp. excess) of a packing (resp. covering) P (resp. C ) is the multigraph spanned by all pair of distinct points with multi- plicity (resp. m(e)-). A packing (resp. covering) is called resolvable if its block set admits a partition into parallel classes, each parallel classes being a partition of the point set . De- note by RP (resp. RC ) a resolvable packing (resp. covering) P (resp. C ) with parallel classes. Deﬁnition 1.2 Let . An RMP (resp. RMC ) is a resolvable packing (resp. covering) with maximum (resp. minimum) possible number of parallel classes which are mutually distinct, each parallel classes consists of blocks of size and one block of size , and its leave (resp. excess) is a simple graph. Deﬁnition 1.3 A Kirkman packing design, denoted by KPD , is deﬁned to be a packing P with the maximum possible number of parallel classes, each containing one block of size and all other blocks of size three. A design is called simple if its blocks are distinct. We use SKPD as a simple Kirkman packing design KPD . RMP and RMC were ﬁrst studied by Fang etc in [9, 10]. They have proved that these designs ca
