Abstract:
The process of vehicle crash to steel barrier is complex. There are elastic and plastic deforms
in very short time. Which leads to it’s difficult to develop new safety barriers.
To find a simple method of barrier development, author predigests the crash process with
double-freedom model. Moreover, simulation of crash process was conducted from which many
useful parameters were obtained.
At the same time, ten times full-scale-test were done. Compared with the results of calculation
and simulation, the validity of the model is approved. The model is useful to simplify the
development of barriers.

Introduction
Guardrails (barriers) are one of the most basic roadside safety features in use, which are
designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the roadside and becoming involved in more hazardous
collisions[1]. In Chinese, barriers are classified into 3 kinds: rigid (concrete barrier), flexible (cable
barrier), half-rigid (steel barrier, such as w-beam and thrie beam barriers).
Compared with concrete barriers, steel barriers are involved in more complex crash process.
Commonly crash of vehicle to barrier is over in insplit second, during which vehicle deforms
largely, at the same time, each part of steel barriers, beam, post and blockout deforms to absorb
