In this unit, the status quo of phenomena associated with copyright such as movie and book piracy will be presented, various factors contributing to the phenomena will be discussed, and potential solutions to the copyright infringement problem will be considered. Copyright owners enjoy economic rights with a time limit of 50 years after the creator’s death according to the relevant WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) treaties. Such a limit enables both creators and their heirs to benefit financially for a reasonable period of time.
