Research on the Fiber Optic EarlyWarning System
for Oil/ Gas Pipelines against Theft

Abstract: A new fiber optic earlywaning system for oil/ gas pipelines is propose . The system is base on the
Mach- Zehn er interference principle, an it achieves the earlywarning purpose through etecting the intensity
variation of the output interference signals to sense the microvibration cause by thieving oil/ gas. Because of the high
sensitivity of fiber optic sensors, the earlyw arning can be ma e before the pipeline amage . The principles of the
sensing system location an the spect rum analysis are analyze , an f iel experiments are con ucte . The
experimental results show t hat the etect ion range of the system is more than 50 km, the relative location error is
2% , the false alert rate is less than 5% , the correct alert rate is 93. 57% , an the average response time is 68. 3 ms.
