A sentence definition of description: Description is to paint in the mind of the reader an image or a series of images by means of language. Why do we use descriptive writing? The purpose of a purely descriptive essay is to 1. involve the reader enough so he or she can actually visualize(设想) the things being described. 2. make narration or exposition more lively(生动的), colorful(有趣的,富有色彩的) and exciting(使人激动的) when combined with them. How to develop an essay of description effectively? 1. A descriptive essay is generally developed through sensory details. The impressions of one’s senses Smell Adjectives include: 芳香的:aromatic,sweet-scented,fragrant 臭的,恶臭的:smelly, reeking,fetid, malodorous putrid(腐烂的) Taste Adjectives include: pungent(辛辣的), sour, acrid (辛辣的), bitter, stinking(发恶臭的), putrid(腐烂的), decaying(腐烂的), rancid(陈腐的), stale(不新鲜,走味的),bad. Example Two The scar(伤疤) on his chin(下巴) only shows up in a certain light (sight) The flower smells spicy. (smell) The kiwi fruit tastes acid. (taste) He has a high-pitched(高音调)laugh. A descriptive essay has one clear dominant(明显的) impression.
