* * * * * * Feminism 邓宗平 英语一班 What is feminism? refers to movements aimed at establishing and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and opportunities for women. bring about equality between men and women in the universe. Females`s position in history Aristotle, a philosopher and a teacher in Greek: the male is by nature superior, and the female inferior, and the one rules and the other is ruled. Freud: the female sexuality is based on a lack of a penis, the male sexual organ. Thomas Aquinas and Augustine: women are really “imperfect men.” When feminism started? During early 1900s, women gained the right to vote and became active in the social issues: health care/education/politics/literature, they wanted to gain the equality with men in these activities. Some famous feminists Virginia woolf: An English novelist and essayist, regarded as one of the foremost modernist literary figures of the twentieth century. One of the leaders in the literary movement of modernism Some famous feminists Virginia woolf: The work “A Room of One’s Own一间自己的房间”declared that men have and continue to treat women as inferiors. It`s the male who defines what it means to be female and who controls the political,economic,social,and literary structure.
