This is because at lower capacities, the gas velocities are lower and this reduces the ability to return enough oil back to the compressor. In an inverter driven compressor, the compressor has to go to a high speed periodically in order to return adequate oil back to the compressor. Digital Scroll system has no problem in returning oil even at low capacities. There are 2 reasons. Even at low capacities, say 10%, there is a time duration which is 100% capacity, and during this full capacity period, the compressor is pumping at full capacity and the high refrigerant velocity returns oil back to the compressor. The second reason is that at low capacities, the compressor is unloaded for a longer duration. During the unloaded state, the compressor does not pump out any oil. Thus at lower capacities, less oil leaves the compressor.
