( Dep artment of Clinical aboratory , R enj i H osp ital , School of Med icine , Shanghai J iaotong University , Shanghai 20 0127, China) Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence of ESBLs and resistance genes in the 119 strains of P roteus mirabilis isola- ted in Renji Hospital between January 20 07 and June 200 8 . Methods Susceptibility was determined by K-B method for the 119 Proteus mirabilis strains. Screening and confirmatory tests weredoneto identify ESBLs-producing strains. Sequencing analysis was conducted to characterize TE , CTX- -1 group, CTX- -2 group, CTX- -9 group and SHV genes in ESBLs positive strains. Results Theprevalenceof ESBLs in 119 Proteus mirabilis strains was 2 0 .2%. All ESBLs positivestrains were highly resistant to cephalosporin antibiotics and completely resistant to cefuroxime and cefazolin. However, resistance to cefotaxime, gentamicin and ciprofloxacin was 95 .5 %, 95 .2% and 86 .4 %, respectively. TE gene, CTX- -1 group,
