middle to lower reaches of the Yangtze Rtver drainage Recently, rwe remains earlier than
8000 B.P. werefound from Jiahu stte (8942-7801 B.P.) in Wuyang County of Henan Province,
central Chma. Thts ts the earliest culttvated rwefound at this latitude (33~ whwh isfar
outside the current dtstrtbutton of wild rice spectes. The discovery is of great ~mphcattons. It
suggests that central China may be one of the centers of early rtce domestication.
