Kalman full name Rudolf Emil Kalman, Hungarian mathematician, was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1930. 1953 was awarded the bachelor of electrical engineering and masters degree in electrical engineering from MIT. He received his PhD from Columbia University in 1957. The kalman filter, which we are studying now, is derived from his doctoral thesis and his 1960 paper, A New Approach to Linear Filtering and Prediction Problems (A New Approach to Linear Filtering and forecasting Problems).
