The book of the《Third Wave》states that the process of thirsty countries’ transformation from non-democracy to democracy. Chapter1 The first chapter mainly talk about the the definition of waves : a wave of democratization is the transitions from nondemocratic to democratic regimes that occur in a period of time and outnumber transitions in the opposite direction. A wave also involves liberalization or partical democratization in political systems. The start of the third wave, the meaning of democracy and the waves of democratization in the history. The start of the wave: In the late 1974, the first democratically elected government was born in Greece, and later, thirsty countries shifted from authoritarianism to democracy. 2. The meaning of the democracy: 1). The central procedure of democracy is the selection of leaders through competitive elections by the people. 2). Democracy involves the two dimensions-contestation and participation. If the political system rejects the part of the social members to have election, the system would not democratic. (A system is undemocratic to the extent that no opposition is permitted in elections). For instance, as the South African system rejects the 70% percent of its population that was black to elect. 3) The critical point in the process of democratization is choosing the government by a free, open and fair way. The three waves of democratization:( the pattern) 2.1 The first wave of democratization stemmed from the American and French revolution from1828 to 1926. During a hundred years, over thirty countries established at least minimal national democratic institutions. (the qualifications of the minimal democracy are: 50% of adult males are eligible to vote and it has a responsible executive who either must maintain majority support or is chosen in periodic elections). Switzerland, the overseas English dominions, France, Great Britain and several smaller European countries made the transition to democracy before the cen
