The dynamic model of control system for SSSC was set up in a synchronously rotating dq frame by using Park’s transformation. To implement the control system, the transient process of DC link capacitor voltage was analyzed. A double closed loop decoupled control scheme of SSSC was designed. A self-charging control mode which maintains a desired voltage on the DC storage capacitor without energy storage system was proposed. The utilization of DC link voltage and output voltage of series converter are increased by SVPWM technique, which ensures the operation of SSSC. Experimental results agree well with both analytical and simulated results. It demonstrates that SSSC can regulate effectively the transmission line impedance and c
