Live to learn, not learn to live. 活着就要学习, 学习不是为了活着。 Francis Bacon was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist, lawyer, jurist author and pioneer of the scientific method. He served both as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England. Although his political career ended in disgrace, he remained extremely influential through his works, especially as philosophical advocate and practitioner of the scientific method during the scientific revolution. 1561, January 22, born in London to Sir Nicholas Bacon; 1573, April enters Trinity College, Cambridge where he studies all the sciences; 1579, Resides at Gray’s Inn, Father’s death leaves him penniless so he begins a career in law; 1582, Made outer barrister at Gray’s Inn; 1584, Takes a seat in parliament for Doresetshire; 1591, Confidential adviser to the earl of Essex; 1593, Takes a seat in parliament for Middlesex; 1597, Publishes his essays along with Colors of Good and Evil and the Meditation Sacrae 1601, February 8, Essex leads a plot to kidnap the queen in order to force her to discuss his enemies from her court. The leader was arrested and Bacon was instrument al in securing for the queen a quicty verdict at Essex trial; 1603, Queen Elizabeth dies, succeeded by James I in whose service Bacon flourished; 1606, he married Alice Burnham; 1607, Receives office of solicitor; 1613, Bacon became Attorney General; 1620, Publishes Novum Organwm; 1622, Presents to Prince Charles the History of Henry V22 Publishes Historian Vento rum and Historian Vitae ET Mortis; 1623, Publishes De Augment’s Scientiarum; 1624, Publishes Apothegms; 1626, Catches cold and develops bronchitis, dying on April 9; Two parts of his life: His second wife Death. His first wife When he was 36, Bacon engaged in the courtship of Elizabeth Hatton, a young widow of 20. Reportedly, she broke off their relationship upon accepting marriage to a wealthier man—Edward Coke. Years later, Bacon still wrote of his regret that the marriage
