Fe O nanoparticle was synthesized in the solution involving water and ethanol. Then, α-Fe O shell was produced in situ on 3 4 2 3 the surface of the Fe O nanoparticle by surface oxidation in molten salts, forming α-Fe O / Fe O core-shell nanostructure. It 3 4 2 3 3 4 was showed that the magnetic properties transformed from ferromagnetism to superparamagnetism after the primary Fe3 O4 nanoparticles were oxidized.
