ABSTRACT Especially sewer tunnels are exposed to corrosion due to concentration of sulphuric acid. Based on expected life span of sewage infrastructures, it is state-of-the-art to integrate a corrosion protective layer, usually by using liners or pipes. Segmental lined tunnel constructions are commonly divided into one-pass and two-pass methods. The latter construction method consists of an initial ground support and a cast-in- place concrete as a final tunnel lining. Consequently, the usable internal diameter is reduced by installation of a liner/ pipe in connection with backfilling of its transition zone. Conversely, corrosion protected tunnels constructed by using the on-pass lining approach offer, among other benefits, an increased available internal diameter. Based on a description of differences between construction methods, this paper will focus on one-pass segmental lining which enables the integration of a corrosion resistant liner during the casting process of segments. In this context, differences in the definition of the term one-pass will be explained linked to the current standard of practice. Finally, an advanced one-pass segmental lining solution will be presented and compared in terms of handling in the pre-cast plant, feasibility and construction efficiency. Unlike other liners, this product is additionally equipped with a liner-frame and mechanical integrated gasket, whereby e.g. welding work at segment joints is not required after ring assembly.
