From the aspects of fre- quency, tmi e domain and amplitude of inducing vibration, the control effectiveness of the optmi al viscous flu id dampers for param etric vibration of the cablesw ith d ifferent sags is stud ied. A t the same tmi e, the relationsh ip be- tw een the installed position of the optmi al damper and the control effectiveness of parametric vibration is also ana- lyzed. The study results ind icate that the viscous flu id damper can effectively control the param etric vibration, and the control effectiveness is related to the excitation amp litude, the installed position of the optmi al damper and the sag of the cable. The larger the excitation amplitude is, the low er the control effectiveness is; the shorter the dis- tance bewt een the installed position andm idspan of the cable is, the higher the control effectiveness is.
