Abstract A k ind of latent c ring agent for w aterborne epoxy w as synthesized by mod ifying dicyand ia-
m ide w ith formaldehyde. Themod ification conditionsw ere optmi ized and the c ring properties of the prod-
ctsw ere characterized by DTA. A single- componentw aterborne epoxy em lsionw as prepared and the bas-
ic properties of its c red film w ere st died. Res lts show ed that the c ring temperat re is 138 e when epoxy
resin w as c red w ith the synthesized latent c ring agent. The particle size of the w aterbased epoxy resin e-
m lsion is abo t 0136 Lm andw ill not be separated at 3 000 r/m in centrif gation for 30 m in and has a stor-
age period p to 4 months at ambient temperat re. Its c red paints have good film properties.
