How ever, exploration w ork of most of these deposits in Nanling region had been completed 30 years ago, and now these deposits have become crisis mines. Exploration and exploitation of mineral resources are facing se- rious environmental problems. In addition, the search for new deposits in a vast area w ith numerous ore spots has become more and more difficult. How to make new prospecting breakthrough in this area and how to ratio- nally develop and utilize know n resources have become urgent issues that should be solved as soon as possible. T his paper makes a tentative discussion on such problems related to geological prospecting as the principle, theo- ry , direction, technology, depth, extent, environment, industrial development, and comprehensive utilization.
