Measurements may be influenced by the equipment used to make the measurements. Measurements may also be influenced by the process of making the measurements. The measurement system includes the equipment and the process used in making the measurements. MSA: Warm-up Exercise MSA: Warm-up Exercise MSA: Warm-up Exercise Measurement System Analysis Approach There are two types of measurements possible: Variable Data can be described on a continuous scale Attribute Data cannot be adequately described on a continuous scale Pass / Fail, very low counts Each must be approached differently. Variable Measurement System Analysis The ideal measurement system will produce “true” measurements every time it is used (Zero Bias, Zero Variance). Study of your measurement system will reveal the relative amount of variation in your data that results from measurement system error. It is also a great tool for comparing two or more measurement devices or two or more operators. MSA should be used as part of the criteria for accepting a new piece of measurement equipment to manufacturing. It should be the basis for evaluating a measurement system which is suspect of being deficient. It should be part of the periodic maintenance program.
