Its translation demands not only a high degree of exactitude but also a proper rendering of its pragmatic meaning. Unfortunately, the English version of many public signs in China suffers from poor treatment, for which many factors are responsible. This paper demonstrates the linguistic features and functional features of the public signs at first, and combining with Nida’s translation theory, especially the principle of “dynamic equivalence”, the paper also puts forward some methods to the translation of public signs, for example, amplication, omission, annotation, substitution and conversion. Introduction Public sign is a language and a communication tool used to present necessary and useful information to public. It has some similarities to logos, notices and labels, but it is used in wider areas. People can see lots of public signs in our daily life, covering from foods, accommodations, entertainment to transportation. At the same time, public signs can be seen in everywhere: supermarkets, restaurants, scenery spots, banks, hospitals, theatres, churches, etc. Public signs are both the concrete embodiment of a country’s international exchanging ability
