Plans N O W Drill Press Storage Cart Drill Press Storage Cart henever anyone visits my shop, I always look forward to showing them around for a couple of reasons. First, I enjoy talking to fellow woodworkers. But second, I never know when I might come away from the visit with a new woodworking tip or shop idea. That’s just what happened last summer when a friend of mine stopped by. As he was looking around my shop, he paused at the drill press. While casu- ally moving the controls up and down as if he were actually drilling a hole, he asked if I had ever considered building a mobile storage cart that would roll right up against the drill press column. I had to admit that the idea had never occurred to me, and it seemed like a good one. So I put pencil to paper and started working out a design. There are several features that make this drill press cart a real pleasure to use in the shop. It has a large, sturdy top, which provides a con- venient place to set drill bits or other tools when you’re working on a project. By swinging the drill press’s metal table out of the way, I’ve got a broad surface for supporting taller workpieces. The deep drawer and shelf below offer plenty of storage space. An adjustable outfeed support on each side of the cart can be raised or lowered to support long workpieces. And on the rare occasion when you need to utilize the full height of your drill press, the cart can easily be rolled out of the way. I built this cart using about a sheet and a half of Baltic birch plywood, a half sheet of hardboard, plus some poplar for the drawer.
