There is a special significance in the establishment of Taichung Park, which was in accordance to early urban design in the 20th century and with emphasis on green space and leisure life. Furthermore, it seems to symbolize the compromise between the ruler and the ruled. After the Second World War, the new government wanted to remove the colonial memorials boasting Japanese imperialist superiority during the Japanese occupation in Taiwan. As a result, many such memorials were destroyed. Fortunately, many of these cultural heritage were not completely removed and the remains still provide many clues today in Taichung Park.
