硅光伏技术’s obvious advantages over thin film solar cells makes the latter wandering around the gate of the market of major PV power generation, while its advantages in cost and processes and its potential in further technical development makes it stay near there. This is true even without the success of CdTe thin film cells. While thin film solar cells already play native dominant roles in fields of flexible PV products and semi-transparent BIPV products, the present talk meant to review the two types of photovoltaic technologies with respect to their roles in the field of major power generation. The following contents are included. 1 An introduction to the wafer-based photovoltaic technology and the supporting industry; An analysis of the current trend and future of the development of the materials, structures and processes of the silicon wafer-based solar cells: monocrystalline silicon, multicryatalline silicon and quasi-monocrystalline silicon; N-type wafer-based cells; various high efficiency cell designs and processes. 2 An introduction to the thin film-based photovoltaic technologies and the supporting industry: a-Si, CdTe, CIGS and organic thin film cells, a comparison in development and future. 3 An introduction to the technology of thin film / silicon wafer heterogeneous junction solar cells, and the supporting industry; an analysis of its current trend and future of development.
