In the 1960s, the developed countries of west had all kinds of inequalities, masses of people were threatened by the survival stresses. In this circumstance, they had to fight against the old system for their own rights. The feminist movement is one of the most influential movements in west countries. The feminist movement is a new cultural movement, which concentrated on the females’ resisting the oppression and exploitation for their rights. As the spirits and materials have always oppressed females over a long period, the females were forced to obtain the legal right through the improvement of the self- consciousness. Females, fighting for the right of equality and freedom, carried on a hard and endless struggle with indefatigable efforts. When the western feminist movement revolted the old concepts and systems, masses of people sympathized with this movement and supported it. In fact, this movement has not only obtained the rights of equality, but also realized feminine values to the society. In a way, this movement promotes the western society to develop in the direction of justice and progress. Although this movement gains more achievements, it takes a negative influence upon the society. The old contradiction has already solved, but the new contradiction is also produced. This movement had neglected the disaster, which was brought by it. Along with the development of the movement, these contradictions are more and more thorny. When we see clearly the merits of the western feminist movement, we must think over the demerits as well. This deserves us to learn and study deeply.
