Chapter 5 Economic Impact: Output, Income, and Sustainability Introduction Each year, the tourism organizations of US spend more than one-billion dollars on tourism promotion. The one-half billion dollar figure does not include the spending of cities, counties, or other levels of government. Many government units sponsor convention and visitors bureaus to promote tourism to their local areas. Take Las Vegas as an example, its Convention and Visitors Authority spent almost $200 million in fiscal year 2006, including more than $115 million in advertising and marketing. Q
