Nanjing Six Dynasty Institute of Wood Industry, Nanjing 210019) Abstract: In this paper, Vietnamese Scentedrose wood was identified as Dalbergia tonkinensis Prain. The fi- ber form and anatomy characteristics of D. tonkinensis were studied, and the physical and mechanical properties of D. tonkinensis were tested. The results show that Vietnamese Scentedrose wood have high density, middle shrinkage and high mechanical properties. In addition, the anatomy characteristics of D. tonkinensis and D. odor- ifera were compared, and the result shows that the pore, the wood rays and the axial parenchyma can be used for feature identification. Key words: Dalbergia tonkinensis ; anatomy characteristics; physical and mechanical properties; Dalbergia odorifera 香枝木[1]是国家标准 GB/T 18107～2000《红木》 种木材全国的通用分类表》，越南名为“sưa” 的木材 中规定的蝶形花科黄檀属，材色红褐至深红褐色，
