Discuss programming language and translators. 6.1 System Software System software is the part of a computer system that makes the raw computing power provided by the hardware convenient for the user and efficient for the owner. System software is software that basically makes the computer work. System software is not a single program. System software is usually divided into four categories: Operating system. Utility software. Device drivers. Language translators. 6.2 Operating Systems An operating system is an interface between hardware and user; it is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the limited resources of the computer. 6.2 Operating Systems Operating systems, such as GNU, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, are prominent examples of system software. 6.2.1 Embedded Operating Systems An embedded operating system is a special-purpose computer system that is used for a particular task.
