IntroductionToday, as globalization is an unavoidable tendency, we need cooperation between countries in different kinds of fields. Intercultural communication becomes more and more frequent. Communication can be divided into two categories, namely, verbal communication and nonverbal communication. Successful communication among people concerns verbal behavior as well as nonverbal behavior. However, most people are hardly aware of the importance of nonverbal communication.Nonverbal communication involves all those nonverbal stimuli in communication setting that are generated by both the source and his or her use of the environment and that have potential message value for the source or receiver.1? Although nonverbal communication is not really a language at all, it is a powerful method of communication. People can gain more information from nonverbal communication than from what people actually say. It is estimated that 55 present of people’s attitudes and feelings are communicated by the body, 38 percent of the voice and only 7 percent by spoken words.2? Although nonverbal communication is universal, it is culture-bound and ambiguous. Not all nonverbal behaviors mean the same thing in different cultures. Different culture has different ways of making nonverbal communication. In order to avoiding conflicts and misunderstanding caused by wrong use and interpretation in intercultural communication, we should learn more about the nonverbal behaviors when we communicate with people from other countries to improve the quality of intercultural communication.II.
