Look at this diagram that labels the basic parts of a stepladder and an extension ladder. General Ladder SafetyIn general, ladders must be capable of supporting their maximum intended load, while mobile ladder stands and platforms must be capable of supporting four times their maximum intended load. Each ladder must be inspected before initial use in a work shift to identify defects that could cause injury.General Ladder SafetyIf you find any faulty or defective components, you must mark the ladder as defective, remove it from service, and attach a sign that indicates "Danger! Do not use." Ladders must be restored to their original design criteria before they can be returned to use.
