This paper reviews the optimization problems and computer simulation models for managing the security checkpoints. We introduce the existed research works on the operational mechanisms of the Customs’ security screening systems, and explore the trade-off problems be- tween security and convenience of the customs clearance. Finally, several potential research di- rections in the future are also pointed out in the paper.
