Global Communication Scope, Path and Methodology Comparatively new in the field of Mass Communication. Based on cross-border communication activities The cross-border communication appeared long time ago, but it was confined to a limited scope for a long time. It is after cold war was ended that barriers to international communication were removed and there were almost no more information islands. Thus the international information flow became possible. When more nations began to take part in international communication, the phenomenon caught the attention of scholars. At the very beginning, the relative study was part of mass communication research: Propaganda?Technique in World War, Harold?Lasswell, 1927 Four?Theories?of?the?Press, Wilbur Schram, 1956 Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, Marshall McLuhan, 1964 It is McLuhan who first mentioned the concept of Global Village. McLuhan described how the globe has been contracted into a village by electric technology?and the instantaneous movement of information from every quarter to every point at the same time. ?In bringing all social and political functions together in a sudden implosion, electric speed heightened human awareness of responsibility to an intense degree. At that time the cold war dominated world politics and international communication met barriers because of socialism and capitalism confrontation. Under the circumstances, the concept of Global Village caused a great shock throughout the world. International Communication became a specific research area in 1990s, a result of the change of the global information environment.
