According to the CSSCI journals published in the past 20 years, this paper reviewed the assessment on the relationship between tourism development and economic growth from the new perspective of promotion theory, inhibition theory and nonlinear theory. In the perspective of promotion theory, tourism development could promote the economic growth by such five ways as earning foreign exchange, increasing tax, promoting employment, stimulating investment and consumption. In the perspective of inhibition theory, tourism development could inhibit economic growth by de-industrialization, ldquo;Dutch disease rdquo; effect and the negative spillover effect. In the perspective of nonlinear theory, there were theldquo;Urdquo; type, ldquo;N rdquo; type andldquo;Vrdquo; type, with the inflection point conditions focusing on tourism specialization, openness and infrastructure construction and so on.
