Abs tract: Donnell theory and FEA ( finite element analysis) sofwt are is employed to analyze the
strength and stab ility of GRP tow ing body of a buoy system. First, by adopting Donnell cylindrical
shell equation and constitutive relations of lam inated p late, a stab ility calcu latig method of smi ple
supported thin orthotrop ic shell under hydrostatic pressure, is obtained. W ith the equation, w e can
analyze the buckling strength of them ain part of the tow ing body. ANSYS tool is then used, to ca-l
culate the strength and stab ility of the structure. In consideration of the strength, stability andw eight
of the body, w e changed the parametersw ith d ifferent valuesw ith respect to material ply, th
