Influence of SepioliteM icrostructure on Therm al Insulation

Abstract:The thermal insulation coating m aterial w as prepared by ultrafine processing in the ball m ill
using the natural sepiolite porousm inera.l The m icrostructure of sepiolite w as characterized by means of
SEM and TEM in term s of size, d ispersion and m icrostructure. The resu lts show that the thermal
insu lation effect of the coating w ith sepiolite bal-lm illed is 5℃higher than that of natural sepiolite. The
m icrostructure of sep iolitew as changed by bal-lm illing. And the fascicular structure of sepiolite became
an aggregate structu re made up of single fiber. A fter u ltrason ic dispersion, the aggregate structure of
sepiolite w as broken. And the therm al insulation effect of the coating of sep iolite can be risen 2℃again.
The thermal insu lation effect of the coating is related to the sepiolite size, dispersion andm icrostructure in
the coating.
