Abstract: T he fracture reason of the spline shaft was analyzed by fracture observation, chemical com
position analysis, metallurgical structure observation, hardness test and tensile test. T he result shows
that the fracture mode is fatigue fracture. T he fracture is mainly caused by the lower hardness and
strength which resulted from the Widmanstatten structure existing in the structure of the spline shaft.
